Fourth Annual Microbiology Retreat

The Microbiology Retreat is a short drive from campus but worlds away as a place to get away, meet and collaborate.
 
The Retreat is sponsored by Plant & Microbial Biology and the Graduate Group in Microbiology. Michi Taga of Plant & Microbial Biology is the faculty leadership for the 2017 Retreat.
 
COST
Cost for the Retreat is $100 per attendee, but there is no charge for speakers. Payment must be made by chart string. For those affiliates without chart strings, payment may be made by check; after, you can request reimbursement from your institution. We will be happy to provide an invoice upon request. The retreat is open to UC Berkeley and its affiliates, and the event is managed and subsidized by the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology.
POSTER INFORMATION
If you are bringing a poster please bring it with you the day of the event and leave it at the Registration Table. The Poster Session time has yet to be determined. The Poster Session includes set-up, and we will have poster boards (41" x 30"; can go vertical or horizontal) for you to adhere your poster to (with push pins, clips or blue tape). There will also be easels for you to place your poster on. Posters may not be adhered to the walls of the building.

CARPOOL
We will not be arranging carpool; however, a list of attendees will be made available a week prior to the event if you would like to coordinate a ride on your own. Also, there is bus service available (SEE BELOW).

 

PURPOSE

  • Bring together scientists studying aspects of microbiology from different departments on the Berkeley campus and from affiliated research organizations
  • Increase awareness of the scope of microbial research in Berkeley-affiliated labs
  • Foster productive collaborations
  • Forge strong connections among graduate students and postdocs doing microbiology-related research across the Berkeley community
  • Share information about technical resources available in local facilities.

Driving Directions

The Brazilian Room is located in Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley, on Wildcat Canyon at the intersection of Shasta Road.

By Car

  • From Highway 80:
    • Take University Avenue exit in Berkeley
    • Follow University up (east) to Oxford
    • Left on Oxford to Rose
    • Right on Rose to Spruce
    • Left on Spruce on the top of the hill, cross the intersection, and Spruce becomes Wildcat Canyon Road
    • Continue for two miles and the Brazilian Room will be on your left
  • From Highway 24:
    • At east end of Caldecott Tunnel, exit Fish Ranch Road up to Grizzly Peak Boulevard
    • Turn right and continue to Golf Course Road
    • Right again and continue to stop sign
    • Right on Shasta Road
    • Shasta dead-ends into Brazilian Room parking lot

By Bus

The #65 bus serves Tilden Park. Please visit ACTransit.org to plan your trip. Allow 45 minutes to get there.

Additional Parking

If lot is full, avoid citation by parking at Island Picnic area on Wildcat Canyon or Anza View Road.
